'Tis the Season for Giving!
By: James C. Minter
During the holiday season, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing cards, finding ways to serve within the community, and certainly the holiday feast. Over the years, my family has participated in soup kitchens, delivered “LOVE Gifts” to the homeless which are 1 gallon zip-lock bags filled with toiletries, snacks, socks, hand warmers, gum, candy, and holiday card with scriptures and a personal message from our family.
As Kiwanians, we are in a unique position of being able to give back and pay forward through service projects that our clubs choose to do, especially during the holidays. The impact we can have on a child, or a family within our community is immeasurable at times. We often don't know their true circumstance, their home-life, the last good meal they had, or the medical condition of their loved ones, but we do what we can because … that's what we do! Galatians 6:10 says “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto those who are of household of faith.” I apply this scripture to my business practices and meditate on similar scriptures while serving others.
All Ohio Kiwanis clubs are encouraged to consider ODKF grants as a valuable resource to help fund your club’s community service projects. We genuinely want to help as much as possible so that your club can have a maximum impact on your community. For individuals with a desire to give back or pay forward in a very specific way, you might consider becoming a member of the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation Legacy Society. Find complete details about these options by visiting www.ODKF.org
The Minter's want to wish you and your family, warm holiday wishes. May the season bring you true comfort and joy. Have a safe and happy holiday season and a wonderful New Year.
Sincerely,
James C. Minter
